The Benefits of Adding More Cranberries to your Diet

A new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has found that polyphenol-rich cranberry juice may help to support improved cardiovascular health by reducing arterial stiffness.
The researchers commented, “We did observe a highly significant effect of cranberry juice on stiffness of the central aorta, which is increasingly recognised as an important measure of vascular function with relevance to cardiovascular disease. Overall, our results may provide further support for the American Heart Association recommendation that cardiovascular disease risk may be reduced by a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, including cranberries”.
Until now, cranberries have been strongly linked to benefits associated with urinary tract health. Additional studies have also found cranberries to be helpful in supporting optimal stomach health and inhibition of H Pylori in particular. Other studies have found that cranberries may help to inhibit the growth and spread of human oesophageal adenocarcinoma or may even help to prevent colon cancer.
Most commercially available cranberry juices on the market are loaded with sugar and in our opinion are best avoided. Look for a cranberry juice that has been sweetened naturally with apple juice for example or why not add a few cranberries to your daily intake of fruit for health benefits that, if recent studies are anything to go by may be pretty far-reaching.
